Choosing a first response

An answering service or a person on your team?

The right choice depends on the work behind the call. Compare the questions a receptionist must answer, the hours you need and what happens after the message reaches your team.

Turn the next unanswered call into a useful enquiry. AI Receptionist from $59/month before tax · 60 answered minutes.

List the decisions a caller expects.

A person on your team may be able to check an order, coordinate a diary, judge an unusual request and take responsibility for the next action. A remote service can cover a defined first conversation, but it needs clear instructions and a reliable handoff. Decide which calls need internal judgement before comparing prices.

Compare the complete working week.

Write down staffed hours, breaks, peaks and out-of-hours demand. For a hire, include the real employment and management costs that apply to your business. For a service, include setup, number, connected minutes, extra usage and the time your team spends following up. Use current quotes and your own call records; there is no universal savings figure.

Test the handoff.

Make the same representative call to each option. Check whether the caller understands who answered, whether the detail saved is accurate and how the responsible person receives it. Ask what happens when the line, notification or handoff fails.

Odette HQ is an AI first-response service. It does not replace a staff member who must make business decisions, access live systems or provide regulated advice.

Could a first-response service cover the gap?

If your team can handle decisions and follow-up, compare a defined enquiry-capture service with the work you need covered.
